ABOUT CHRISTINE She has now developed a new range of ceramics in her own studio. She feels abe to express her Christian faith through her pottery, by incorporating verses from scripture in her work. She designs pieces especially with this in mind. Her work is hand-thrown in earthenware. It is then hand decorated with wax overlaid with colour (mainly copper, iron and cobalt) on a tin-based white glaze and fired at 1100c C. Her other specialism is Raku. This work is made in porcelain and T-material to resist thermal shock. Christine has build her own kiln, fired by propane gas, in which pots are fired to 900 cC. At this point they are lifted from the kiln and placed in a container of sawdust which ignites on contact with the pots. The carbon which is produced creates black clay where exposed, crackle on the white glaze and red and green lustres. The work shown on this web site are examples only as all work is commissioned. Christine has exhibited at the Philip Jackson Gallery, Midhurst, and the New Wine Christian Conference, Newark, Nottinghamshire, and sells her calligraphy work at The Unity Bookshop, Petersfield, Hampshire.
